If anyone reading this has gone through the ‘mid life’ career change that required significant university re-education before they could enter their new chosen career, perhaps you could drop me a line or leave a comment about how you did it?

My mum went to uni at 40 for 3 years to do her nursing degree…. she’d only finished age 15 at school.
I guess it depends how passionate you are to do it and how much you are willing to sacrifice to get achieve it.

I am going back to college at the age of 39 to get my Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. I originally graduated back in the early 90s with a Bachelors degree in Journalism. I take classes all online through a private university in Phoenix, Arizona. I currently live in Detroit, but plan on moving to Las Vegas once a get my teaching degree.

A friend’s husband is going to uni to do IT to get out of working for an optometrist. But you already do IT so I don’t know what else you want to do. Some people go back to uni and became teachers, ministers, whatever. Good luck with your new direction.
at 38 I went back to school part time. One to two classes per term, slow and easy so the rest of my life wasn’t impacted too drastically. My homework was done with the kids while they did their homework, the kids and Hubby were asked to pick up some of the daily chores so the house didn’t go too far downhill while I was in school.
It took a little over 4 years to finish my degree, but I did it. It can be done, just have a lot of patience, ask your family to be supportive, and embrace humor and (if needed) antidepressants!

Well, I guess you could say I went thru a midlife career choice when I went back to school at the age of 46 to become a paramedic. I had been an EMT-Intermediate for several years on a volunteer dept (11 years in all when I had to step down). I love being medic, it is the best job and so much fun, each day is different. I love coming in to chaos and systemically fixing everything from scene safety to pt care. I smile every time I get a pay check cause the truth is I would work for free I enjoy it so much.
