When we follow God’s plans for our lives we can become so amazingly blessed in ways that were previously unimaginable.
Yesterday I received the news that one of our long time diarists (Pragmatist) who’d written here since 2002 has passed away. As I understand it she was quite elderly, although I don’t know her exact age some of our interactions indicated she was a more senior computer user.
Learning of her passing saddened me, although I didn’t know her personally aside from interactions here, I felt like I did.
In recent months I’ve assisted many people, including one close friend, who’ve been entering palliative care. If you’d have asked me a few years ago what would be the worst job in the world, I would have told you that what I do now would be the worst.
God is funny like that.
If you say ‘never’ to things God might just have other ideas. He certainly has for me. But the key is to be open to letting God take you out of your comfort zone because it seems to me that life begins when you get out of your comfort zone.
I’ve been blessed to be a part of these people’s last few days, hours or weeks. It is such a privilege to be able to care for people when they’re at their most vulnerable and although I don’t spend much time with them, I like to think that the time I do spend with them shows them that people care about them. The feedback I’ve received indicates that the families of these people know that I care about them.
And I’m blessed to discover that the best job in the world is actually one that I thought would be the worst.
Rest In Peace Chaya, Micky and all the other people I’ve transported for palliative care recently who’ve departed us. I pray I get to meet you again in eternity and I thank you for the enormous opportunity you’ve each given me to grow spiritually.
Chaya was 85.
Bless you and the work you do.
